Pet care

Apex Maids helps households across Singapore shortlist domestic helpers for pet care alongside housekeeping. Tell us whether you have dogs, cats or other pets, their size and temperament, and the daily feeding, walking, cleaning or grooming duties involved. Review each candidate's previous experience and use the video interview to discuss her comfort with those specific tasks. Willingness to work around animals does not establish hands-on experience; suitability and availability need checking for each candidate.

Not "are you okay with pets" — almost everyone says yes. Ask whether she has lived with a dog or cat before, what size, and what she did with it day to day. Show her a photo of your animal. If you have a large or strong dog, ask specifically whether she is confident walking it alone, because a helper who cannot physically control a dog on a lead is a genuine safety problem on a Singapore pavement.
Some helpers are not comfortable handling dogs, and that is a legitimate position rather than a failing. Telling us upfront that your household has a dog means we simply do not shortlist candidates for whom it would be a problem — which is better for you and better for them.
Pet care almost always sits alongside housekeeping. A shedding animal adds real cleaning work, and that belongs in the workload conversation.
Ask what animals the candidate has cared for, which tasks she handled herself and how those tasks fitted around cleaning and other work. Describe your own pet rather than relying on a general "pet friendly" label. Distinguish being willing to live with a cat or dog from experience feeding, walking or cleaning up after one. Use the pet-care interview checklist to record the answers alongside the profile.
Do not ask whether she is “okay with pets”. Ask what she did, day to day, with the animal she lived with.
Questions
Yes. Tell us at the brief stage and we will shortlist only candidates who are genuinely comfortable, then let you confirm it yourself at the interview. Showing her a photo of your dog during the call is a simple and effective check.
If it is agreed as part of the role, yes. Be specific about how many walks, how long, and whether the dog pulls — a helper who is not confident handling your dog on a lead should not be doing it.
Yes, pet care is ordinary household work. What matters is that it is agreed in advance and is realistic alongside her other duties, rather than added silently after she arrives.
